Razzi sul centro tedesco-libanese: la guerra arriva alla “Casa della Pace”

[…] On September 22, rockets struck the village of Baisarija near the town of Deiraz-Zahrani in the south. Sukaina Ja’afar and her family followed the Israeli army’s evacuation order on the same day. Initially, they stayed in the apartment of an acquaintance, but two days later that location was also bombed.Volunteers found them on the street and brought them to an emergency shelter. The first night they slept on the floor, but now they at least have mattresses and a few cooking pots. They have created makeshift partitions with school desks and blankets to have a little privacy.
There are far too few toilets for the more than 215 people now living here indefinitely, and there are no showers. Ja’afar warms water in a pot left out in the sun for washing. “What will we do when winter comes?” the 52-years-old wonders. “We need to go home as soon as possible. But I see no sign that the war will end soon.” When bombs fall on Dahija just a few blocks away, the school walls shake.
So far, this shelter has remained peaceful, but the growing number of displaced people from the south of the country and from Dahija is causing conflicts. The headmistress of a nearby school reportedly looted a supply warehouse, perhaps out of greed or hostility towards Shiites. In other areas, refugees have occupied empty homes, stirring resentment among local residents. Meanwhile, Israel continues to bomb even the places where refugees have found shelter. Many Lebanese fear they will become targets if they take in Shiite compatriots.[…] for @stern with Steffen Gassel.
