Picture of the Year International 2025

February 23, 2025

Picture of the Year International 2025 (POYi) recognizes the work done in Haiti and Lebanon.

2024 has been a year of transition, marked by shifting global power dynamics, accelerating advancements in AI, and the growing erosion of trust in the media. At the same time, we have witnessed an escalation in global violence and a rising indifference towards its victims. In this climate of uncertainty, the work of journalists and photojournalists on the ground has become more crucial than ever. It pushes us out of our comfort zones, reminding us to empathize with those who have never known the privileges many of us take for granted.

This year’s recognitions are dedicated to all of us who never stop believing in the importance of this work. A heartfelt thank you to Il Fatto Quotidiano for their support in the daily coverage of the Lebanon war during the October escalation, and to La Repubblica for their commitment to shedding light on the often unreported story of Haiti. With Fabio Tonacci, we traveled to Haiti to interview one of the gang leaders known as Barbecue and to document the unfolding situation on the ground. The full story is available here. Lastly, my deepest gratitude goes to the people I meet in every corner of the world, whose time, connection, shared life experiences, tears, and smiles have shaped me into who I am. Thank you.
